We are delighted to inform you that we have recently procured the services of local business LGS to provide our school uniform. This is a first step of a few changes we intend to look in to making over the next few months in relation to school uniform and in due course you will be asked to complete a survey to share your opinions relating to existing and future uniform for Selwood.
It has been a real pleasure getting to know LGS over the past year and we are confident that they will be able to provide our families with a friendly and professional service. As from February half term parents can order and pay for uniforms by logging into the on-line shop <https://www.cosmicmonkey.co.uk/schoolwear> website and select the appropriate logo. An email will be sent out when the order is ready for collection. LGS Printing and Embroidery is located on Commerce Park directly in front of Budgens and the Shell garage. Alternatively, uniform can be delivered via DPD at an additional cost. Cosmic Monkey will appear on bank transactions.
A intro to LGS:
LGS is a local family run business, owned by Leo and Jennie Stickley. Both were educated in Frome, Leo having attended Trinity, Oakfield and Frome College and Jennie having attended Hayesdown, Selwood and Frome College.
The company was initially formed in March 2012 as LGS Transport Training to provide lorry driver and forklift training to local businesses in the Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset area. In 2014 the company began to deliver apprenticeships in various areas of logistics, initially to local haulage companies, but expanding over the years to include larger national companies such as C M Downton, EV Cargo and Booker Group.
In 2018, following the growth of the company, LGS moved from its original premises on Marston Trading Estate to much larger premises on Commerce Park. This provided larger, better quality, classrooms and a dedicated warehouse for forklift training. Unfortunately, COVID-19 stopped all but essential driver and forklift training from March 2019. This resulted in considerable financial hardships, even with Government support through local authority grants. Early in 2019, Recognition Express was taken over by the Bardon Group and moved to Leicester. This created a need for a local clothing embroidery and printing company, and LGS Printing and Embroidery was formed. A new embroidery room was created in October 2019 incorporating the latest Tajima embroidery machines.
In late 2020, LGS formed a new clothing company, Cosmic Monkey, to provide Direct to Garment printing. Direct to Garment printing is the process of applying ink directly onto the garment to result in striking colours and high-quality designs. It’s thought that this method of printing is one of the best for bright and bold colours. This allows for any image to be printed directly onto t-shirts, hoodies and other cotton garments. LGS will be working closely with Frome College A Level Graphic Design students to develop and print their own clothing designs.
LGS has had tremendous support from local schools, businesses and sports and social clubs, providing uniforms, workwear and sports clothes. LGS currently provide uniforms to several Frome primary schools, as well as Oakfield Academy. As from February half term, LGS will be supplying uniforms to Selwood Academy, as well as Frome Community College.
