Following the Met Office's Red Extreme Heat Warning, all MNSP schools will be closed to pupils and staff on Wednesday 24 June and Thursday 25 June 2026.
This decision has been made after careful consideration of government guidance and the potential risks that extreme temperatures pose to the health, safety, and wellbeing of pupils and staff.
At this time, schools are expected to be open as normal on Tuesday 23 June and Friday 26 June. However, the situation for Friday will remain under review, and schools will communicate directly with families should there be any changes.
We understand that this may cause inconvenience for some families, but the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff must remain our highest priority.
Parents and carers are encouraged to follow government advice on staying safe during periods of extreme heat and to take extra care during the hottest parts of the day.
Staying Safe in the Heat
Parents and carers are encouraged to follow NHS and government advice to stay safe during periods of extreme heat:
- Stay out of direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day, typically between 11:00am and 3:00pm.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration.
- Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing to help keep cool.
- Apply sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 and reapply regularly, especially after sweating or spending time outdoors.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect against the sun's rays.
- Keep homes cool by closing curtains or blinds in rooms that face the sun.
- Avoid strenuous physical activity during the hottest periods of the day where possible.
- Check regularly on young children, older relatives, neighbours, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat.
If anyone experiences symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating, or weakness, they should move to a cool place, drink water, and seek medical advice if symptoms do not improve.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
