The art curriculum at Selwood Academy is designed to allow students to explore a wide range of materials and media. The emphasis is on experimentation, being allowed to take risks and building confidence through trial and error.
Throughout KS2 and KS3 we will investigate a broad collection of themes such as nature, portraiture and architecture. These will include aspects of art history, craft and design including periods, styles and major movements from ancient times up to the present day.
In each topic we will explore four key areas which also inform the assessment criteria.
These foci are;
- Development of ideas – Using research to explore a theme and to analyse and evaluate their own work.
- Experimentation – Exploring how materials and media can be used to create a successful outcome.
- Recording – The accuracy and presentation of ideas.
- Personal response - The creative outcome based on the students’ personal ideas.
